Boozers past and present
One of the most surprising things about Notting Hill is the disproportionately large number of pubs there used to be. As attitudes towards drinking have changed greatly over recent years, many of these have now closed or have been turned into gastropubs.
To give you an idea of just how many pubs there were, let's look at Princedale Road (between Holland Park Avenue and Avondale Park in Notting Dale). Although the road is not very long, at one stage there were no fewer than 5 pubs. All of them have now closed.
In some cases, the facades of the buildings have been preserved. Below are images of some of the boozers past and present. For more information, there are sites dedicated to lost pubs in W11 and lost pubs in W10.
