Portobello Road
Portobello Road stretches from Notting Hill Gate to Golborne Road. The world famous market was for many years the beating heart of the area, and divided into 3 distinct parts. The antiques section in the south (as far down as Elgin Crescent); the food and clothes market (from Elgin Crescent to Hammersmith and City railway bridge); and the flea market (from the railway bridge up to Golborne Road).
Over the years - as you would expect - the market has changed considerably. Businesses come and go, but it is still popular with locals and tourists alike. The number of market stalls and shops selling old tat tourist merchandise has definitely increased, thanks in great measure to films such as Paddington and that unmentionable dirge film starring Hugh Grant.
